More about Beecholme

Beecholme is also the first postwar "mixed development" housing scheme in Hackney, with a mixture of houses and flats with the taller block having five storeys and containing one-bedroom and bedsit accommodation. It is featured in Volume 15 of Hackney History and was the site of Beecholme House, the family home of Maj. John André (d. 1780), who was executed as a British spy in the American War of Independence.

Sculpted bench slideshow

The initial concept sketches, background and more
is on the "Sculpture" page

April 1 - now completed, the bench has a protective screen around it again temporarily to give the turfs laid on the banking and directly in front time to bed down properly.

There will be an official unveiling in about a month with Tim Norris, councillor Linda Kelly, I hope representatives from Hackney Homes procurement and EIB depts as well as invited press attending.

The bench will then be open for residents to enjoy soon afterwards.

We hope install two more smaller benches later this year. Tim will design them to coordinated with the above bench, echoing the curved profile.

These two new benches would be placed in the adjacent and opposite corners of the square, adding both balance and visual integrity.
